Jay Inslee is a member in the United States House of Representatives, representing the First District of the State of Washington, in the Seattle area. He is a recognized leader in Congress on energy issues and is the prime sponsor of the New Apollo Energy Act, a comprehensive plan to build a clean energy economy in America. Congressman Inslee was elected in 1998 and serves on the Energy Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Prior to this, he served a previous term representing the fourth district of Washington, served in the Washington State legislature and practiced law. Congressman Inslee began working on energy issues in 1972 when he attended the first world environmental conference in Stockholm, Sweden and was involved in a research project concerning energy use policies of Sweden and the United States. He holds a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Washington and a J.D. from Willamette University School of Law. He lives on Bainbridge Island Washington with his wife Trudi, they have three adult sons and a wonderful daughter-in-law.
