About This Event

As Wildlands Network makes strides toward our holistic vision of connectivity for North America, we recognize that conservation progress can look very different between Mexico, the United States, and Canada. But some practices hold true across political borders and cultures: big picture-thinking, fostering a broad base of support, bringing together expert knowledge from a variety of sources. 

Effective Conservation is based on Ignacio Jiménez’s extensive experience managing conservation projects on three continents over thirty years. This includes coordinating the largest wildlife reintroduction program in the Americas, in Argentina, which has returned extirpated jaguars, green-winged macaws, and giant anteaters among other species to their native habitat. 

In his book, Jiménez offers a pragmatic approach to conservation that puts the focus on working with people—neighbors, governments, politicians, businesses, media—to ensure they have a long-term stake in protecting and restoring parks and wildlife. Originally published in Spanish, Effective Conservation is brought to you in English by Wildlands Network's longtime publishing partner Island Press, and provides a groundbreaking and time-proven formula for successful conservation projects around the world.
