Threat Multiplier: Climate, Military Leadership, and the Fight for Global Security
Please join CSIS on Friday, November 15 at 4:00 p.m. ET for a panel discussion with Sherri Goodman, Retired U.S. Marine Corps General Arnold Punaro, and former Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon on Goodman's new book, Threat Multiplier: Climate, Military Leadership, and the Fight for Global Security.
Threat Multiplier: Climate, Military Leadership, and the Fight for Global Security addresses essential questions about the intersection of climate change and national security. Threat Multiplier explores how military leaders’ thinking has evolved, their contingency plans, and where they see potential conflicts. Goodman outlines why the Department of Defense (DOD) now considers climate change in war games, disaster relief planning, international diplomacy, and even the design of its own bases.
Sherri Goodman served as the first ever Deputy Under Secretary of Defense Environmental Security from 1993 to 2001 and is currently Secretary General of the International Military Council on Climate & Security (IMCCS), representing over 40 military and national security organizations addressing the security risks of a changing climate. She also serves as Vice-Chair of the US Secretary of State’s International Security Advisory Board (ISAB). Sherri received EPA’s Climate Change Award and twice received the DOD medal for Distinguished Public Service.
This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
