Dream Play Build: Hands-On Community Engagement for Enduring Spaces and Places
For 20 years, James Rojas and John Kamp have been looking to art, creative expression, and storytelling to shake up the classic community meeting. In their new book, Dream Play Build, they share their insights into building common ground and inviting active participation among diverse groups. Their approach, “Place It!,” draws upon three methods: the interactive model-building workshop, the pop-up, and site exploration using our senses. In this discussion, they will offer wisdom distilled from workshops held around the world and a deep dive into the transformational approach and results from a community in southern California. Moderated by Deirdre Pfeiffer, associate professor in the ASU School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning, this event is in partnership with Island Press, a nonprofit that shines a spotlight on crucial issues and focuses attention on sustainable solutions.
